Japanese organic oolong tea with a floral fragrance and smoked aroma
$12.96 / 70 g
Aged tea with a nice floral flavor from Japan
Shizuoka Prefecture is renowned for its tea production, and Hamamatsu City is by no doubt one of the reasons why. It is there that, in lieu of any agricultural sprays or chemical fertilizers, this tea is painstakingly fermented using black koji mold. This organically-driven fermentation process—controlled by microorganisms—includes natural components such as gallate, catechin, and citric acid, to name a few. The process culminates in a sweet and full-bodied tea with a forward but mellow caramel note in the front and floral notes in the background.

While the leaves are not very pretty the flavor is somewhat flat, almost muted. It is mild, earth, hay, dead grass and strong Minerality with a punch of river rocks and rainwater. I get a very strong drunken effect from this tea. I am not sure if it is from the black koji but it is mildy trippy in my opinion. I think this tea shines the most through the effect and not the flavor. Unless you love very Earthy and rocky flavors. I would not necessarily recommend this tea based on flavor. However I would strongly recommend this tea for those who are looking for something rather unusual, and more so an unusually potent cha qi experience.

To start of, I love fermented teas such as a good Shou. But this is one of the few teas I actually couldn't finish a session of. There's an overwhelming sweetness of black liquorice, followed by a fresh yeast flavour and a salty liquorice impression. I could see a few people enjoying this kind of flavour, but it's not something I'd go for again. I think 1 star would be bit too harsh as someone more into this heavy sweetness may still like it, so 2 stars seem more fair.

Too many people on here trying to impress with philosophical drivel, which offers nothing useful to others. If you like an earthy black tea, with a hint of smokiness to it then Rosecha is your tea. If you want a Japanese black tea that is more sweet and fruity, then choose the Yame Koucha.

A smooth and delicate black tea. Liquor is of a clear golden caramel in tone. There is no astringency nor bitterness, instead an earthy sweetness with a floral and fruity after taste. Wet leaves have an olive-copper hue and smell almost sugary. I think this could be a pleasant dark tea for all sorts of sweet and savory accompaniments.

Mild and yet tasteful. Character and yet gentle. Beyond my expectations and for sure I will order it again.

A true surprise! I've never thought I could try a Japanese tea so different from normal green tea and so pleasant! Rosecha is delicate and aromatic at the same time, with a flowery scent and a limpid rose liquor. I also appreciate the ability and the hardwork of the farmers that produced this specialty. I recommend to enjoy it hot on winter days, to warm up body and soul!

Certainly, this tea is completely different from any other black that I have tasted. The taste is very unexpected and mysterious. The effect caused in my soul is firstly confusing and then deep, new and relaxing. This tea is not for beginners. It is for those who seek and find but not exactly what they were looking for ...

It is a unique tea, the mould fermentation makes it totally different from normal black teas. I agree with the brewing instructions which are more similar to oolong brewing. The taste is very strong fruity-flowery, no bitterness, silky texture.

One of my favorites! It has a wonderful flowery scent and I love the slightly pinkish red color it has.
