I’m relatively new to koicha and have been trying a bunch. This may be the finest koicha or matcha generally I’ve ever had. Can make it as thick as you like - I was around 2 tsp and maybe 1.5 oz water just enough to get it to pour - and it tastes like the sweetest richest freshest English green peas you’ve ever had. No nutty or other flavors like the Jiku and Komyo - also excellent - but for koicha in particular this is a couple of notches above both of those. I definitely have to use strainer first (I think the foil pouch matches are a bit more moist and clump more) but for special occasions worth it. As an usucha it’s terrific tho I think not as distinctive. If you love thick sweet koicha you have to try this.

An incredible addition to the Maruyasa line. Jiko and Komyo are such excellent quality matchas on their own, I had to try Tendo when saw there was a new release (despite no reviews!). I'm a huge fan of Jiko - it's an excellent high quality, sweet matcha. Who knew what this (a whole new price point for Maruyasa) would offer? The quality is immediate with its incredibly full, fresh aroma. No floral notes like Jiko nor nuttiness like Komyo. Whereas Jiko is bright and sweet with a middling body, Tendo brings an incredibly full body that never seems to dissipate (indeed 15 minutes after while writing this it lingers!). It hits you with a milky creaminess. Sometimes you notice some mineral notes, sometimes pea, other times buttery. No matter how you look at it, this is a matcha that is along the quality of the single origin Horii Shichimeien (reminds me of Mumon in particular) and Hekisuien Hekisui. You'd be remiss to not give this a try. Maruyasa exceeded the already high bar they set with their previous two matcha releases. This could very well be your go to matcha for a special occasion - it definitely will be for me.
