I would say this matcha is beginner friendly, easy to drink. For my likings even a bit too easy. Mild in taste, with short bitterness coming out only slightly just at the end when swallowing. Has a nice texture, a bit creamy. If you are just getting into matcha, this one is quite not-controversial in taste, mild and pleasant. I however prefer more of notes that stand out strong.

Top tier matcha for me. The flavor and price make it a repurchase every time. I think I’ve purchased this matcha and various sizes at least 4 times. (I use it to make lattes)

Not as light as I've read. As a usucha, I tasted nuts, no bitterness, creamy. I will buy again when the larger quantity becomes available. Thank you!

I really enjoy this matcha as an everyday Usucha. It is nutty with no bitterness, and it has a beautiful color. Not the sweetest option I tried from this brand, but a very easy-to-drink matcha that my friends also really liked. I generally use slightly lower temperature water with this matcha, at about 80C and the flavors come out beautifully. I will buy again for sure!

The first thing I noticed was how amazing this smelled - if only I could bottle this fragrance into a perfume bottle and wear it every day. I typically drink matcha in a lightly sweetened latte, and I find mid-tier usuchas typically have the perfect balance of depth and bitterness that shines through in milk (but without the typical astringency in lower offerings). Biwa no shiro is the current favourite in our household.

nutty for sure, but a lot more bitter than i was expecting, but it was also quite light. i was not a huge fan, and i didn't like it as much as a latte either, but i can see why some other people might like it.

Not for someone looking for a matcha that has more depth in flavour. I prefer mozumukashi for a milder matcha but still offers that bit of flavour

Upon opening the can, I was hit with a sweet scent from the matcha powder. I drank it first as an usacha and found it to have a nutty note. As a latte, the nutty flavours enhanced (especially when paired with oat milk) and the nutty flavours were reminiscent of macadamia nuts. There was also a sweet lingering taste which I enjoyed. For the price point, this is a really great daily drinking matcha option if you like nuttier flavours in your matcha. The matcha is still strong enough to shine through the milk but if you like your matcha to punch you in the face, this wouldn't be your first pick. Though I really enjoyed this blend a lot and will repurchase again soon!

Absolutely delicious! One of my new favorites. Definitely a more subtle matcha flavor, but the creaminess and smooth sweetness are just so good, especially in a latte with barista-style oat milk (about 150ml oat milk, 4g matcha powder, 45ml water at 80 Celsius). As usucha, I definitely got a stronger matcha flavor and a hint of grassiness with the creaminess, but still delicious. Will be repurchasing this one!

I think I can recommend this for people who have a milder(?) palette for matcha or people who are just introducing their taste buds to matcha. It definitely delivers on the very caramel-like taste that was promised. On the sweeter side with no bitterness and astringency at all. However, if you're looking for a rich matcha taste, this one is definitely not the product for you. If you drink matcha as lattes (like me), you might need to increase the amount of product to make your drink as that matcha taste wouldn't come through. I normally use 5 grams of matcha for a 500 mL drink, but I've been using 7-8 grams of Biwa no Shiro just for it to taste like matcha. I've also tried Ryo no Kage from this same brand, and I think it's safe to say that this is just the characteristic of their Usucha line.

First thing: I'm very much a matcha beginner. I drink it mostly for the effects, not the taste; but I'm exploring to figure out if there's a matcha I also *enjoy* drinking. My first impression of Biwa no Shiro was of something like caramel, but without the overt sweetness. After that: sweet cream, backed up by a deep verdant flavor with no bitterness whatsoever - a bit like the smell of a forest when it rains. The finish is long, sugar-sweet, and - indeed - nutty, with more of that delicious caramel flavor. I want to drink this every day!

Delicious! Carmen at Sazen recommended this to me when I asked for a good replacement for my usual Maryuku Koyamaen favorites Kiyo no Mori and Sanyu no Shiro & she was spot on. Like the similarly priced MK usuchas I favor for my mornings, Biwa no Shiro is indeed creamy and sweet with a silky substantial milky like texture. Despite making it a bit on the thicker side (I use abt 20% less water than typical recipe calls for) there is no bitterness, astringincy or tannic tastes. There’s a good bit of umami with the sweet and there is indeed a nuttiness like cashew or macadamia that’s very good. Highly recommend this!
