A handmade and hand-painted tempered glass. It is hand-painted with summer maple leaves.

“Hira” chawan are flat and wide tea bowls commonly used in summer, as their shape allows matcha to cool more quickly. Giyaman derives from the word diamond. Originally, it referred to high-quality imported glass prized for its diamond-like brilliance and sparkle. Here, it refers to the soft, irregular glow of the surface.

The bowl is heat resistant and suitable for both hot and cold tea.

About the Myōken Kiln
Imaoka Myōken is a Kyoto-based ceramic artist known for his work in Kyoto ware (Kyomizu-yaki). He was born in 1955 in Kyoto. After graduating from the Kyoto Prefectural Ceramic Technical College in 1972, he worked at a kiln in Sentsūji and later studied under master potter Kiyokazu Hara in 1977. In 1981, he established his own kiln in Yamashina, Kyoto, where he continues to produce ceramics today. His works often focus on tea ceremony vessels that emphasize warmth, seasonal feeling, and a sense of playfulness rather than strict formalism. Alongside his wife, Imaoka Miyako, who is an accomplished painter, the kiln is known as Myōken-gama, producing tea bowls and utensils with detailed, expressive decoration..

We ship the tea bowl in a Japanese paper gift box.
