If compared to Babamukashi, as a Usucha they share similarities. However, Babamukashi is more refined, and calm. Babamukashi is like a 40yr old scholar while Soumei no Mukashi is like a 20yr old scholar. Young and vibrant. It's slightly astringent if compared to Babamukashi. It has a nice lingering aftertaste as well but it's astringency is clearer. Running with the price and my expectation, I'm giving a five star to it. Although I enjoyed reading the "baba's" description, my expectation for that selection were pumped up leading to its lower rating.

Being blunt, it's chinese spinach and seaweed soup at the beginning. It's colour were excellent, bright green. The first note on the nose was spinach followed by sweet umami that was not over powering. The umami-ness became clearer on the second steep and it reach its peak at the third steep where gentle liquorice flavours started to unfold. Ofcourse I increased the temperatures and steeping time. The umami and vegetal flavours were still present. To me it's a calm and well balanced selection.

As the reviewers have said, the taste is hard to describe. In my opinion, it sits on the boundary between gourmet and daily gyokuro. If I have to compare, it is a step up from "Gyokuro Konacha" with a longer lingering taste and without the grassiness. For the taste, it is the sort of tea that hits you like a hammer, then after the hit you get amnesia about the taste.

How can I use my points?
Points can be redeemed at the next or later purchases.
Registered and logged in users can redeem their points at the ‘Address’ or ‘Cart’ page before confirming their purchase. Your points can be redeemed for the Net Sum (Subtotal) of your Cart, but cannot be used for shipping or other additional costs.
New points are given based on the final purchase value. (If you redeem previously earned points, the total purchase value will be that much less.)
Points cannot be exchanged for cash or handed over to others.
How long are my points valid?
The received points are valid for 12 months. After each purchase, this expiry date is extended. The countdown starts from the date of the last purchase.
Expired points cannot be revalidated, our system deletes them automatically.
How can I check my points?
After logging in, you can follow your point balance and Point History in the MySazen menu.
