Ohmi Kōcha Yabukita

Shiga Black Tea from Tsuchiyama with Honeyed Edge, Grown Under Suzuka Mountain Sunshine

Ohmi Kōcha Yabukita Ohmi Kōcha Yabukita Ohmi Kōcha Yabukita

An aromatic black tea from Tsuchiyama-Cho, Shiga Prefecture, famous for the Yabukita tea cultivar.

The tea leaves' aroma is intensely fruity, reminiscent of prunes and pears. The infusion is sweet with the edgy character of honey. The charismatic aftertaste evokes the nostalgic aroma of tobacco leaves that lingers gently on the palate.

Origin: Tsuchiyama-Cho, Koka-shi, Shiga Prefecture
Altitude: 500 meters
Cultivation method: grown under direct sunlight

Ohmi tea has great prestige and is loved by many for its rich flavor and fragrance, which are brought about by the rich nature, plenty of sunshine and the beautifully clean waters and air coming from the surrounding Suzuka mountains.

As the legend goes, Zen monks brought the first tea seeds to the area in the 14th century from Kyoto, so Zen temples cultivated Ohmi tea first. Thanks to its characteristic aromas, by the 19th century, it became much in demand, even for export.
