SAZEN TEA ORIGINAL BLEND - Limited Edition

40 g of Kinako Matcha is enough to make 20 bowls of matcha tea.

“Oni wa soto, fuku wa uchi” — Out with the demons, in with good fortune, as the Japanese saying goes. In early February, Japan celebrates Setsubun, a traditional ritual marking the transition from winter to spring. It’s a time to clear away bad luck and welcome fresh beginnings. During the ceremony, people throw roasted soybeans out of their front doors or at a symbolic “oni” (demon), chanting the phrase to drive away evil spirits and invite good fortune into the home.

There’s also a deliciously symbolic tradition: eating the same number of soybeans as your age (plus one for the year ahead) to ensure health and luck in the coming year.

This moment of renewal and intention is what inspired our new seasonal matcha blend—a small ritual of its own, celebrating fresh starts, balance, and a touch of everyday magic.

Kinako powder is a traditional Japanese ingredient made from roasted soybeans that are finely ground into a soft, nutty flour. Combined with ceremonial-grade matcha and a hint of cinnamon, it becomes a sweet, smooth matcha drink. The mellow, toasty kinako powder enhances the matcha’s nuttiness, softens the tart edge of green tea, and creates a soothing, comforting tea.

The tea—packed in a double-layered aluminium bag—comes in a stylish black tea caddie.

How to prepare

STEP 1) Put 2g (0.4 US tsp, 1 teaspoon or 2 chashaku scoops) Kinako Matcha powder into a suitable tea bowl.
STEP 2) Pour 80-90 ml (2.7–3.0 fl oz.) of 90℃ (194°F) water over the Kinako Matcha powder. (Since Kinako Matcha has a distinctive flavor, you may use slightly more water than for a typical usucha)
STEP 3) Whisk with a chasen (tea whisk) until foamy.

Freshness is key to enjoying matcha. Drink it quickly before it cools.

❖ Before Step 1, warm the tea bowl with hot water, then dry it with a cloth. This ensures the perfect temperature for preparing a fragrant, delicious matcha. (Optional)
❖ Sift the matcha powder through a fine strainer before use to prevent clumping. (Highly recommended)
❖ Drink the matcha immediately after preparation, as it may become increasingly bitter as it cools. (Recommended)
❖ Freshness is key to enjoying matcha. It's best to use the tea within one month of opening. (Highly recommended)
