Feng Huang Dancong Yan Mei Ye 2019

Oolong tea from the Phoenix Mountains, China

Feng Huang Dancong Yan Mei Ye 2019 Feng Huang Dancong Yan Mei Ye 2019 Feng Huang Dancong Yan Mei Ye 2019

The fragrance of this tea is just like Waxberry. The scent of the steamed leaves has a sweet and fruity nature. The tea has a forceful and concentrated, slightly sweet, floral nature, at first featuring the taste of caramelized fruit, followed by peaches. Ideally prepared with water at 95 Celsius and in 30 second infusions, gradually increasing the time of re-steeping.

STEP 1) Warm your teapot. Pour boiling water into a gaiwan or teapot, let it sit for a little while, then discard all the water.
STEP 2) Fill your pot with tea leaves in a 3g/100ml ratio, pour boiling water on them and brew for 30 seconds (no need for rinsing).
STEP 3) Serve. Pour the tea into a pitcher, and then into cups.
STEP 4) Brew again.

❖ For the second infusion, steep it for about half the time of the first infusion. For every other infusion after that increase the steeping time (to about 35-40 seconds).
❖ Make sure to open the lid of the teapot between infusions, to prevent the leaves from cooking.
❖ This is how we recommend brewing this tea, but we all have our preferences, so try experimenting to find the way you like it the most.

The wet leaf has prominent tangy citrus scents which covers some ripe fruit character. The liquor is bright, vivid with surprisingly warm sensation. The body is full, smooth, and ends with the iconic warm and tingling aftertaste like a sweet young ginger. Qi is surprisingly comfort rather than high and stimulating of most Dancongs. You can infuse with very hot water for more prominent ginger sharpness which I like to see in this particular tea.

Dry leaf: orange zest, citrusy but warm; wet leaf: cooked mandarin peel, floral; taste: pomelo, grapefruit syrup, rocky and mineral; texture: thick and smooth, very warming and slightly dry aftertaste. I brewed 5 g , 95°C water, 25 secs first and +5 each next. I liked it.

The wet leaf has a very intense and intoxicating syrupy sweet scent reminiscent of dried fruits with a warm and slightly toasted aspect. Very pleasant aroma. Initially upon tasting the tea there is a fresh acidity like unripe berries, then a floral perfume fragrance appears and underneath everything there is a subtly toasted warmth.
