Masterpiece

Seiji Itō's artwork.

Master Itō makes these unique teacups with a special technique. First he presses the clay on a wooden panel with the Asanoha (Hemp leaf) pattern engraved on it, and then in a mould to give it a shape. The bottom is added separately afterwards. He applies the silver glaze at the end, before firing. In the kiln, the glaze gets a white patina, which is polished off to recover the pattern and the original silver color.

Chahai Asanohamon tea cups are entirely hand-made and unique, there are no two identical teacups. On some pieces the pattern differs too, with Asanohamon only on one side of the cup.

We have the cup in three sizes: small (S), medium (M) and large (L).

The cups are prefect match with Master Itō's yuzamashi, Jinshū Chakai White.

Origin: Tokoname City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan

Remarks on the cleaning:
Since the glazing is silver, its color will change in time. It gives the surface a natural, antique feel, but if you prefer the original bright silver color, you can clean it with baking soda using a soft sponge.

Handling precautions

Initiation:
Before first use, rinse it with hot water, then let it dry completely!

Usage:
Avoid placing it on hot surfaces, like stove, and never use in microwave or oven.

Cleaning:
If you prefer to avoid tea stains, rinse the cup well after every use. It is better to avoid dishwashing liquid, but you can use gentle, organic soap to clean your pitcher. Never use bleach!

Storage:
After use, always let it dry completely, for if stored away while still wet, it might develop an unpleasant smell or mold.
