Tanikawa Jin's artwork.

The tea cup is made of white clay and fired in a reduction chamber for over a day. The reduction firing turns the clay brownish. The pattern on the surface is achieved with "Mogake technique" developed back in the 19th century. The teapot is wrapped with Amamo seaweed, which reacts with the clay and oxidizes during firing. The result is this unique pattern, bearing the impression of randomness, which has both aesthetic and philosophical appeal to the Japanese.

On the inside of the cup there is the painted brush stroke of "Enso", a popular symbol of Buddhism and Japanese calligraphy referring to Infinity, Eternity and the Circle of Enlightenment.

Place of origin: Tokoname, Japan

Handling precautions

Initiation:
Before first use, rinse it with hot water, then let it dry completely!

Usage:
Avoid placing it on hot surfaces, like stove, and never use in microwave or oven.

Cleaning:
It is better to avoid dishwashing liquid, but you can use gentle, organic soap to clean the cup. Never use bleach!
Avoid using dishwasher or dryer!

Storage:
After use, always let it dry completely, for if stored away while still wet, it might develop an unpleasant smell or mold.

Unglazed ceramic cups absorb scents and flavors, so only drink one kind of tea from them (green tea, black tea, roasted tea, etc).
