Premium Matcha Tea Scoop crafted from bamboo over 200 years old
This Susudake Chashaku is carved from bamboo that once formed the frames and roof timbers of traditional Japanese houses, aged between 100 to 200 years. "Susudake," meaning "smoked bamboo," gets its distinct reddish-brown hue from decades of exposure to smoke rising from the irori, the traditional hearth found in these old homes.
The Susudake Chashaku Tokujō is made from carefully selected bamboo with particularly rich and beautiful color tones.
As fewer and fewer of these historic houses remain, bamboo suitable for susudake is becoming increasingly rare, making each of these unique scoops all the more special.
Each of these chashaku is a unique, handcrafted piece of art. You'll find both lighter and darker tones, with naturally occurring, one-of-a-kind patterns on every piece. If you have a specific preference in mind, feel free to request photos before purchasing.

Cleaning:
After use, some matcha powder might stick to the scoop. To clean it, always use a dry cloth. Bamboo is extremely sensitive to moisture. If you clean it with a wet cloth, the water and the matcha powder seep into the material and damage it. Make sure you keep it dry!
Do not expose it to direct sunlight for too long!

The thought that this chashaku is made from more than 200 year old bamboo is quite surreal. I received one in a gorgeous red hue with brown undertones. A stunning, but also functional, work of art!

This Chashaku is absolutely stunning and will likely only increase in value as they become harder to source. How they achieve this finish is also very interesting and makes the experience of making your matcha feel even more special. It's also a great little conversation tidbit; "you know, to get this finish it takes over 100 years of..." etc. which will either leave your guests wide eyed and fascinated, or potentially guide them into a deep sleep. If it's the latter, that means more matcha for you. Both outcomes are a win.

Thanks a lot for this wonderful premium chashaku. I´m very satisfied with it and I enjoy preparing my matcha each morning with it.
