Kiyo no Mori is an especially round-bodied Umami-rich tea, deep in flavor, intense, impressive, delicious and unique. The pampering Umami taste stays with us long after tasting. This slightly sweet tea is free from astringent and bitter flavors.
STAFF NOTES
Tea has a delightful, soft, creamy flavor. It has a fragrance like forest honey, a tone detectable in the flavor, too. Maybe that is the reason this tea is called "The Forest of Purity".

Sado is a ritualised form of serving tea,expressing "Wakeiseijaku"-or mutual respect and thoughtfulness,which brings harmony among and between people and things - by appreciating art pieces that are presented during the ceremony. Enshu Sado(Tea) school has 400 years of history.Enshu Kobori,the originator,was a feudal lord of the early 17th century(Edo Era) and was considered a great tea master of the time. He was the Sado instructor for the Tokugawa Shogunate,and has left behind a great legacy in paintings,calligraphic works,poetry,architecture and gardens.

STEP 1) Put 2g (0.4 US tsp, 1 teaspoon or 2 chashaku scoop) matcha powder into a suitable tea bowl.
STEP 2) Pour 70 ml (2.4 fl oz) 80℃ (176°F) water over the matcha powder.
STEP 3) Whisk with a chasen (tea whisk) until foamy.
❖ Before Step 1, Warm your tea bowl. (Optional) Pour hot water in it, then discard all the water and wipe the bowl dry with a cloth. During whisking a cold tea bowl might cool the water down too quickly, which could turn the matcha bitter.
❖ Sift your matcha powder. (Strongly recommended) Matcha clots easily in hot water. To prevent this, sift the powder through a fine strainer.
❖ When your matcha is ready, drink it immediately, because as it cools down it might turn bitter. (Recommended)
❖ Matcha is best fresh. Consume it within a month after opening. (Strongly recommended)
EXTRA TIP
❖ Try iced matcha: pour the prepared matcha over ice.

Having now tried the complete principal line from Marukyu Koyamaen (MK), this matcha is definitely worth trying for those who are looking to branch out and try other blends. It’s bold, robust, umami, deep tasting and holds very well with milk as a latte. I find Marukyu Koyamaen to be more on the mellow end compared to other brands but this one definitely packs a punch. If you like a stronger matcha flavor give this one a try.

Dark green, forest green colour. Strong bitter smell, mossy and seaweed aroma when whisking. Pleasant and rich flavour, clean without being overly bitter or having any distinct aftertaste. This matcha reminds me of a cool forest in the night with the smell of petrichor. Goes surprisingly well with milk in a latte, unlike some other matcha in their price range which would be best enjoyed without. Good, highly recommended

This matcha truly represents the meaning of its name, whenever I open this tin I am greeted by a wonderful arboreal scent that reminds me of a forest cleansed in rain water. While this matcha lacks the natural sweetness that I prefer, it does not have any bitterness which is always a win for me. It has a very interesting flavor that I still cannot fully pin point. The best category that I can name this elusive flavor is the form of a color: pale alpine green. Ultimately, Kiyo no Mori was a very educational matcha for me.

This tea is phenomenal. It packs a punch. Very robust but not bitter. Full bodied. And the umami stays with you for a long time. The price is amazing as well. This is not your sweet mild tea, the flavor is extremely potent and stays on your palate noticeably as you drink it I only drink usucha. So about 70 ml and one teaspoon. The complexity that this tea has provided me, i don't think any other tea has for this price. If you love aoarashi , you will like this. God bless the person who created this tea.

This matcha is an affordable entry into higher quality stuff but wasn't as good as the Tsubokiri matcha from the same brand. In comparison this one is a little bit plain but still pleasant to drink.

This matcha was very hard to whisk enough for a good froth, to the point where it was cold and my arm was a little sore when I finally finished whisking it, BUT the taste was absolutely incredible! I instantly tasted a very strong cream flavor, almost like matcha ice cream with absolutely no bitterness. The taste is probably the best out of all 9 matchas I ordered from Sazen despite it's frothing problems and low price.

********** I give this matcha more than 5 stars. This is a surprisingly special and delicious matcha that is so creamy and milky. I have tried so many different matcha from maryukyu koyamaen and other companies from Japan. This is the first one that literally has consistency similar to milk or even creamier, made as usucha. It is so well balanced and kind of addicting with an amazing taste that lingers and no bitterness. The price is great for such a wonderful matcha. I’m so glad Sazen distributes/sells these matcha outside of Japan.
