"Meisaku" means masterpiece in Japanese and the masterful craftmanship shows in every small detail.

This "hishaku"—bamboo ladle—is designed for the ro-season. The ro is the sunken hearth used in the tearoom during the colder months (November to April). The ro (sunken hearth) is larger than the furo (portable brazier), and accordingly, the ro hishaku features a larger head, allowing it to scoop more water—ideal for the colder season when water cools quickly.

The tip of the handle (kiridome) is finished in a style called “kawame-otoshi”, where the outer skin of the bamboo (the bark side) is shaved off.
