Autumn Matcha Tea Blend by Maruyasu
A seasonal matcha tea blend created for the autumn season by Maruyasu from Ohmi, Shiga prefecture.
A light-bodied, smooth and pleasant matcha that's great for both advanced and beginner matcha enthusiasts to celebrate the autumn season. This gentle, silky-creamy tea offers a well-balanced profile of sweet, nutty, and verdant notes. What sets it apart is a unique herbal twist—minty and lemongrass-like hints that mix right in with the earthy flavors.
Meaning of Kingetsu "錦月":
The term "錦月 (Kingetsu)" evokes the image of a beautifully radiant moon, often imagined as golden or richly colored like brocade. "錦" symbolizes gorgeous colors and decorative beauty, while "月" refers to the Moon or its gentle light. Together, "錦月" evokes the image of a beautiful, golden moon or a moon as lovely as a brocade tapestry. The beautifully shining Moon is a popular autumn symbol in Japan.
Traditionally, before the era of air-tight packaging, tea farmers used to keep their tea in large "tsubo", vessels. In Kyoto, in the summer season, they sealed the tsubo with paper and carried them to Mount Hiei. The mountain was cool, keeping the precious tea fresh and aromatic. The farmers kept their Tencha in tsubo all year round and only took out the amount they wanted to grind for matcha. In October or the beginning of November, the seal of the jar with new tea plucked in spring is ritually broken and the new tea is used for the first time. The ritual of breaking this seal of the tea jar is called "tsubokiri".
Tsubokiri Matcha Kingetsu is available from early October until December.

STEP 1: Place 1.5–2 g (approx. ½ tsp or 2 chashaku (traditional tea scoop)) of matcha powder into a suitable tea bowl.
STEP 2: Pour 70 ml (2.4 fl oz) of 80°C (176°F) water over the powder.
STEP 3: Whisk (vigorously) with a chasen (tea whisk) until frothy.
❖ Warm the tea bowl with hot water first, then dry it thoroughly with a cloth. This helps maintain the ideal temperature and brings out the fresh aroma of the matcha.
❖ Sift the matcha powder through a fine strainer before use to prevent clumping (strongly recommended).
❖ Drink the matcha immediately after preparing it, as it may become more bitter as it cools.
❖ After opening the matcha packaging, consume all the tea within one month for the best experience.
