Tea stems blended with rich tasting green tea from Shiga prefecture
Karigane tea (also known as kukicha) is made from tea leaves and stems. It contains more vitamin C than other types of green tea and has a savory, mellow flavor with a pronounced green freshness.
Kabusecha is a variety of Japanese green tea that is grown under partial shade prior to harvesting. The term "kabusecha" translates to "covered tea" or "shaded tea." Kabusecha is a versatile tea, you could say it’s a little bit of everything in one cup. It has the rich, brothy depth of gyokuro and can even be brewed like one. But as you steep it a second or third time, it transforms, revealing the fresh, vibrant character of unshaded sencha.

1. Put 5g (1 tsp ) of Karigane into a Japanese teapot.
2. Cool boiled water down to 70℃ (158ºF) and pour it (200cc) into the teapot.
3. Steep for 45 seconds and pour an equal amount of tea into each cup.
The same tea leaves can be used three times. Use hotter water (about 80℃) for the second infusion, but steep it only for 25 seconds.
This is how we recommend brewing this tea, but we all have our preferences, so try experimenting to find the way you like it the most.

Rich and flavorful with a bit of a bite, presumably from the stems, results in 2 contrasting qualities, making this a very interesting tea You get a lot of quality at a very reasonable price. By far the best karigane I've tried. I haven't tried many because I never had one I would buy a second time but I would definitely buy this one again. Thanks Sazen!

A very mellow and grassy tea. The aroma is reminiscent of roasted vegetables and it has a pleasant aftertaste. I think this may be my new favorite tea.

This tea came to me as a small gift from Sazen and I immediately fell in love with it, so I decided to order a 200 g bag of this wonderful tea. Pleasant flavour, beautiful colour
