Crafted from Aji stone — a rare granite from Kagawa Prefecture, Japan, known as “the diamond of granite” for its exceptional hardness and durability — this traditional stone mill is designed to grind tencha, the shade-grown tea leaves used to make matcha, into an ultra-fine powder.
The slow, steady motion of the heavy granite stones produces a powder so fine that it dissolves smoothly, creating a luxuriously soft texture and a rich, creamy foam. Freshly ground matcha bursts with vivid color, deep umami, and irresistible aroma. Once you try it fresh, nothing else compares.
Because granite grinding generates minimal heat and friction, it helps preserve the tea’s vibrant green hue, delicate fragrance, and beneficial compounds like L-theanine and EGCG.
For matcha lovers ready to take their ritual to the next level.
Great matcha starts with great tencha. Choose from our premium tencha options: Tencha Yugen and Tencha Unkaku.

Handling precautions
Usage
Place the stone mill on a stable, flat, and dry surface before use.
Handle carefully — granite is extremely durable but can chip or crack if dropped or hit.
Use only dry tencha leaves (never damp), as moisture can clog the grooves and affect the grind.
Feed the leaves slowly into the opening — overloading may strain the stones and produce uneven powder.
Turn the handle at a steady, moderate speed to maintain the low-heat grinding that preserves matcha’s vivid color and aroma.
Cleaning
After grinding, brush away remaining powder from the grooves and surface with the feather included with the mill and wipe it once again with a soft cloth.
Avoid washing the stones directly with water — moisture can cause residue buildup or weaken the surface over time.
If necessary, wipe gently with a dry or slightly damp cloth, then allow to air dry completely before reassembling.
Make sure no tea powder remains between the stones before the next use.
Storing
Store the mill in a cool, dry location away from humidity, steam, and direct sunlight.
Avoid drastic temperature changes that may cause expansion or cracking of the granite.
Keep covered or wrapped in a soft cloth (included with the mill) to protect from dust and accidental knocks.
If unused for long periods, inspect before use to ensure the stones are clean and dry.
