Matcha Seiro

Entry-level ceremonial matcha from Maruyasu

Matcha Seiro Matcha Seiro Matcha Seiro Matcha Seiro Matcha Seiro Matcha Seiro

Seiro is a great entry-level usucha with a medium body and pleasant bitterness. It has a vibrant, creamy flavor with a subtly sweet aftertaste. Thanks to its distinct character, it also works well as a latte.

The meaning of Matcha Seiro "抹茶青露" :
The character "sei" represents blue, while "tsuyu" or "ro" refers to a raindrop. Together, "seiro" means "blue raindrop." These two characters evoke a sense of purity and clarity.

Maruyasu was established in 1872 and has since become a renowned tea manufacturer. Its representative, Yasushi Maeno, holds the prestigious title of "chashi kyudo," one of the highest qualifications for tea specialists in Japan.

How to prepare

STEP 1: Place 1.5–2 g (approx. ½ tsp or 2 chashaku (traditional tea scoop)) of matcha powder into a suitable tea bowl.
STEP 2: Pour 70 ml (2.4 fl oz) of 80°C (176°F) water over the powder.
STEP 3: Whisk (vigorously) with a chasen (tea whisk) until frothy.

❖ Warm the tea bowl with hot water first, then dry it thoroughly with a cloth. This helps maintain the ideal temperature and brings out the fresh aroma of the matcha.
❖ Sift the matcha powder through a fine strainer before use to prevent clumping (strongly recommended).
❖ Drink the matcha immediately after preparing it, as it may become more bitter as it cools.
❖ After opening the matcha packaging, consume all the tea within one month for the best experience.

Honestly not a very memorable matcha. Not that there is something wrong with it - taste is good, rather mellow, nice deep colour. It's just the fact that Shimizuoto matcha from this brand price is not that much higher, but I find it to be much better, distinct and fun notes in it. Seiro on the other hand tastes pretty usual in my opinion - not many notes standing out here.

What is in this?! It is SO good as an usucha. How is this entry-level?! Recommended at a higher brewing temperature, it is soooo bold and nutty, I think it packed a lot of umami as an usucha. Its depth to me was almost like a mid-tier koicha. It is not grassy, rather a vegetal leaning umami. The bitterness and astringecny wasn't distracting as an usucha. If I were to compare this to a similar matcha, maybe Ippodo's Sayaka without the lingering floral astringency, similar nuttiness with a punchier umami? I LOVED it as an Iced usucha, tasted more sweet and much creamier in mouthfeel. Leaves a hint of mint freshness! Pleaaaase try this as an usucha guys, or iced. It's SOOOO GOOOOD. It is so good for the price IMO! I love this so much I had to repurchase!!!!

so good! has a chocolatey flavor, little to no astringency. I do not like seaweed flavor in my matcha, and this does not have any hint of that. one of my favorites that i've tried

absolutely beautiful color in lattes, there is a very slight mellow bitterness but it is very faint. foams up extremely nicely and the can is so unique and beautiful. personally a rebuy matcha for me!

i liked it enough at its price. a bit on the lighter side, but it also has some nice smoothness and some nuttiness. i also bdidn't really get much bitterness or astringency. it's pretty good with oat milk as a latte but if you like a stronger flavor maybe use a bit more than your usual. the powder is a bit coarser than other matchas ive seen but it's still pretty good as a daily drinking matcha. considering buying it again :)
