Saekdong Boksora Wind chime

A handcrafted wind chime made of recycled paper bands. The gentle, resonant sound of wind chimes is traditionally thought to ward off misfortune and invite positive energy.

Korean traditional colors, known as Saekdong, are composed of five hues, red, yellow, blue, black, and white, collectively called Obangsaek. These colors are believed to repel evil spirits and convey wishes for a long, healthy life.

The design combines two symbolic elements: the “bokjumeoni” (lucky pouch) and the “sora” (seashell). The rounded form of the lucky pouch signifies abundance and good fortune, while the seashell is a symbol of unexpected blessings.

There is also a poignant tradition behind the “korum”, the string from the chima jeogori (traditional Korean attire). In the past, women would tear and exchange these strings when parting from loved ones, as a token of hope for reunion. As such, the string has come to symbolize love and longing.

This windchime is crafted by Bomnalae Atelier, a studio that takes pride in honoring traditional craftsmanship while thoughtfully using recycled paper to stay environmentally friendly.
