Handmade and handpainted teapot with a precise pour, ideal for your everyday Japanese tea ritual.

Since the teapot has a small imperfection in the glaze on the lid, we are offering it at a 10% discount. This small flaw does not affect the teapot's excellent functionality.

“Annam” is the former name of present-day Vietnam. This design originated from vessels brought to Japan from Vietnam on ancient trading ships. Tea masters later adopted the pattern, incorporating it into the design of tea ceremony utensils.

About the Taisen Kiln
Taizen Yamamoto is a Traditional Craftsman from Yokkaichi, Mie Prefecture, born in 1953 and raised in a family deeply connected to pottery—his father built kilns and his grandfather was a teapot maker. After high school, he dedicated himself to ceramics, producing traditional Banko-yaki teapots while also experimenting with new glazing techniques. His work has received numerous awards, including the Minister of International Trade and Industry Award and the Governor’s Prize at the Banko-yaki Ceramic Art Exhibition. Yamamoto’s teapots have also been repeatedly selected for the Japan Sencha Craft Exhibition, reflecting his strong reputation in the world of tea ceramics.

About Bankoyaki
Banko-yaki (Banko ware) has a history of roughly 300 years. The first Banko pots date back to the Genbun era (1736–1740, Edo period), when a merchant named Nunami Rozan became captivated by the Way of Tea. He built a kiln in the town of Asahi in Mie Prefecture and began making his own pottery.

What started as a merchant’s hobby eventually grew into world-renowned earthenware, later recognized as a “Traditional Craft” by Japan’s Ministry of Economy. Today, more than 100 Banko-yaki kilns operate in Mie Prefecture, mainly around the cities of Yokkaichi and Komono.

Handling precautions

Initiation:
Before first use, rinse it with hot water, then let it dry completely!

Usage:
Avoid placing it on hot surfaces, like a stove, and never use it in a microwave or oven.

Cleaning:
Tea stain is the natural part of a teapot's "maturing process", but if you prefer to avoid it, rinse the teapot well after every use, and do not let the tea leaves sit in it for too long. It is better to avoid dishwashing liquid, but you can use gentle, organic soap to clean your pot. Never use bleach!
Avoid using the dishwasher or dryer!
To clean the built-in strainer, run water backward from the spout, or use a toothbrush or toothpick.
As you touch it, your hands' natural moisture might leave stains on the surface. You can easily remove that by gently rubbing it with your fingers.

Storage:
After use, always let it dry completely; if stored away while still wet, it might develop an unpleasant smell or mold.

Non-glazed ceramic tea pots absorb scents and flavors, so only prepare one class of tea in them (green tea, black tea, roasted tea, etc).
