This is my first time trying kyobancha, and it is very unique compared to other typical Japanese teas. The large brown leaves present a smokiness that transfers quite strongly to the tea. The drink itself has an almost sweet flavor that lacks the characteristic umami of green teas.

Completely agree with the other reviewer. I've discovered that roasted houjicha is generally not my thing, and that extends to its more traditional relative, iribancha.

I love this tea. Tried various kyobanchas before figuring out that I like this one the best. I’m on my 8 or maybe already 10th 500gr bag of it.

It has the smell, taste and (long) aftertaste of a freshly unwrapped cigar. If you like it, it's your choice. (Not mine)

I should probably add that for people who prefer lower roasts, I found Inaka Bancha very pleasant. Definitely try once
