Yuzucha

Japanese semi-fermented green tea with a citrus fruit flavor

Yuzucha Yuzucha Yuzucha Yuzucha Yuzucha
Speciality

Yuzu-cha has a nice fresh taste. The producers mix the peels of Yuzu (citron) with Japanese oolong tea leaves and dry them. The fragrance of citrons is absorbed by the Japanese oolong tea leaves in the process of doing this.

A delicate oolong with a soft sweet aroma of citrus. I do brief steeps like I would with Chinese oolongs, to allow many steeps. The liquor is bright and clear on a yellow tone with no tartness or bitterness. The flavor is very light. Wet leaves are whole and freshly green with a more pronounced citrus aroma than the liquor. Overall a nice mellow oolong for those who look into a lighter tea, especially in a hot climate. I think this would make a nice iced tea.

This tea has whole, unbroken leaves, quite unusual for Japanese tea. It is more in the Chinese style. The yuzu flavor is nice but I feel it is missing the same tea flavor present in the other Japanese oolong offered by Sazen. Given the prices of the two products, I would recommend the other one over yuzucha.

This tea it's such a surprise! Its citrusy yet round and sweetish aroma makes it a perfect tea for autumn afternoons. It's really hard to find nice and particular Japanese Oolong teas, and this one is so pleasant and refreshing. The natural scent of yuzu citrus pairs greatly with the smoothness of Oolong. I love it! It definitely deserves a try!

One of my new favourite teas at this moment which we really like to drink with my partner ! We find it really brings us into our heart and to the subtle parts of our perception. I really respect gentle teas, and this for me is exacly right - despite it’s fragile taste, it has enough room and interplay between simmings for a whole bouquet of gentle and interwoven notes of aroma and taste. This I will make sure, will always be on my shelf :)!

Felted texture, marked citrus flavor, very round taste. It has a tendency to go bitter due to the citrus if you put too much or go above 90 °C, so it's an oolong that needs special treatment.
