Pan-fried green tea from Kumamoto, Japan
This yabukita kamairicha is from Kumamoto prefecture, famous for pan-fried tea. It was represented and finished with high scores at the All-Japan Competitive Tea Exhibition.
This tea is mellow and verdant, with a gentle fruitiness, typical for Kamairicha. It is exceptionally umami-rich and sweet, filling the room with its sweet corn scent. The usual toasty-nutty notes of pan-fried teas are also present. The aftertaste is clean and lasting.
It is a particularly sweet and rich kamairicha, which definitely deserved its high scores.
It goes two steeps. For the second round, use 85°C water and steep for 20 seconds. This brew will be slightly spicy with a hint of refreshing bitterness.

Brief (5 seconds) steeps in 70 Celsius water. Liquor is a slightly opaqued light yellow in color. Its yellow hue gets brighter in the 2nd infusion. Taste is bold with an umami sweetness and just a touch of bitter note. Mouthfeel is slightly dry and sticky. Wet leaves are freshly green giving off an aroma of steamed seaweed and potatoes. Flavor intensity starts to mellow down by the 4th infusion. A longer steep (30 seconds) gives a more pronounced vegetal note, though still mild.

Superb tea. I got four infusions out of it.

A great super well balanced tea. Its got a very potent aroma of vegetables and umami. The tea soup is full but not heavy. It's reminding me a lot of edame beans. You also have a soft straw under it and a long lasting impression. Didn't get to many infusions out of it. About 5. Which is good but I would have preferred it a bit more. Still it's a competition grade and for that it's exactly what you would expect. Super balanced and very potent in its soup. I highly recommend this tea for anyone who is looking for a good solid base line as to what these kinds of tea's are supported to tase like. Good tea
