Uji matcha from Kanbayashi Shunsho for making usucha or matcha drinks

Best Price

Entry-level ceremonial matcha blend from Kanbayashi Shunsho, an Uji tea producer.

Ceremonially prepared, this matcha has a very delicate, mellow matcha flavor with no astringency. It's fragrant and has a nice green color.
In lattes, the green tea flavor doesn't come out very strongly because of this very delicacy, but it provides a beautiful green color.

We recommend this tea for those who are beginners at ceremonial matcha; it is very tolerant of different water temperatures or different preparation ratios.

A great value for money.

This matcha doesn't look as green as shown in the picture on the website. The taste is really bitter for a ceremonial grade, even if it is entry-level ceremonial. I tried this matcha at 80C and 85C (as shown in the instruction) - it taste meh, bitter at both temperature. I don't know if the matcha sent to me was defective or not. Otherwise, this matcha is definitely not as described on this website.

Thank you for your valuable feedback! We do our best to write accurate flavor descriptions and take accurate images when we first receive a new tea, but especially in the past year, some matchas have changed in appearance and flavor due to the tencha ingredients the makers had available. Reading your review, we went back to this matcha and tasted again; we agree with you that a pleasant bitterness peculiar to entry-grade matchas is now detectable–we edited the description accordingly. Regarding the color, many factors can affect the greenness of matcha; while matcha does not spoil, it loses color and flavor over time, especially once opened. The packaging can also be a factor, for example, cans keep the matcha fresher much longer than refill bags. Once again, thank you for your feedback and we look forward to serving you again!

not the worst but it reminds me of supermarket matcha. color was quite dull but not brown thankfully. the flavor was very light- it's a bit grassy and has a bit of a almond/soapy ish taste, and it's a bit bitter. it's also a bit astringent but moreso as a latte than usucha. if you're looking for a budget friendly everyday matcha for lattes, unless you want the absolute cheapest option, i would suggest ryo no kage over this one because the difference in quality is very noticeable.

Great value! Only a small amount of astringency and a very slight amount of graininess. In my opinion, it is a little difficult to find a good balance of flavor when using it for usucha, but the matcha is marvelous in a latte--especially in the trending "cold-whisked" lattes. It would also be great when sprinkled on a cold dessert, like a green tea tiramisu or vanilla ice cream.

Matsu no Shiro Matcha is incredible — smooth, delicate, and naturally sweet with a beautiful, vibrant green color that speaks to its quality. It’s perfect for daily enjoyment or special tea moments. Shipping was impressively fast, and the customer service was top-notch: prompt, courteous, and clearly passionate about their product. Everything from the packaging to the taste shows care and craftsmanship. I’m so glad I found this matcha and will definitely be coming back for more!

The color was nice and it had a nice froth. Far from the worse I've tried but the flavor is way too subtle for my taste. It gets lost in the milk in a latte. as usucha it has more flavors, but as a latte it has a subtle almond milk like flavor (I used the same milk I use in all my lattes which is unsweetened soy milk with different matchas and usually the flavor is still strong). it might just be that I'm too used to higher grade and I see how it's an entry level matcha. I'll probably use it for tiramisu or other baking but not for latte or usucha
