Tokoname teapot from the Gyokkō Kiln
Handmade teapot from the Gyokkō kiln.
Thanks to its flat and wide shape, this teapot is particularly suitable for premium quality teas, because as they have larger space to open, the leaves graze each other less, releasing less catechin, thus revealing the tea's true sweetness and gentle elegance.
The teapot has yōhen finish. Yōhen in Japanese means "changed by the flame". When the teapot is fired, the heat fluctuates in the kiln, which results in color changes on the surface. This makes every piece unique with the impression of randomness, which has both aesthetic and philosophical appeal to the Japanese.
Place of Origin: Tokoname, Japan

Initiation:
Before first use, rinse it with hot water, then let it dry completely!
Usage:
Avoid placing it on hot surfaces, like stove, and never use in microwave or oven.
Cleaning:
Tea stain is the natural part of a teapot's "maturing process", but if you prefer to avoid it, rinse the teapot well after every use, do not let the tea leaves sit in it for too long. It is better to avoid dishwashing liquid, but you can use gentle, organic soap to clean your pot. Never use bleach!
Avoid using dishwasher or dryer!
To clean the built-in strainer, run water backwards from the spout, or use a toothbrush or toothpick.
Storage:
After use, always let it dry completely, for if stored away while still wet, it might develop an unpleasant smell or mold.
Non-glazed ceramic tea pots absorb scents and flavours, so only prepare one kind of tea in them (green tea, black tea, roasted tea, etc).

It looks quite a lot like what is pictured. It's not a look I'm fond of but I can't knock points off for this since it's advertised as exactly what it is - if you like what you see in the product images, you'll get what you like! I got this out of desperation for a left-handed Kyusu and it serves this function well. The clay filter is great, as is the fit of the lid. It does make good tea. As for where I'm knocking off a star - the pour leaves something to be desired, as it often dribbles a bit and the handle can be a bit awkward to pick up. It can also be awkward trying to secure the lid with your thumb while pouring; I almost always have to re-adjust my grip after picking it up to do this. After a few weeks of use, I've grown to feel that these faults come more from the flat design than the quality. It has a great feel overall and the issue of a dribbling pour can be fixed with better control over the pour. The issue of the handle being too low to the surface is easily fixed by sitting the body of the tray on a tea towel or a raised tray with the handle over the edge. Regardless of the fix, the pot is evidently quality - just be aware of these issues before getting it and decide whether they're issues you're fine accommodating for or dealing with. If you're okay with these then you'll have no complaints about the pot.

Great size for brewing high-grade sencha for one person. Overall look and finish is beautiful as well.

Beautiful handmade and Japanese teapot. Very smooth feel and easy to handle. Next to that one of very small batch of left handed versions to be found.

I am so disappointed!!!! I paid 100 euros for a very tiny kyusu (1 cm high, 5 cm diameter), since DHL charged me 36 euros for customs rights. Sazen had informed that the color might differ from picture, and of course it's the case instead of a nice pink-salmon color, it's basic grey croncrete color, awful and sad. That thing does not give enough tea for 1 single sip. I have never been so disappointed by a product in my whole life.

Достоинства: маленький, недорогой, симпатичный чайничек. Недостатки: маленький - плохо сидит в руке "*проблема" больших рук) - норовит выскользнуть. Металлическое ситечко.

Small size - perfect for one (or two). Nice texture. Very pleasant geometry. My ONLY complaint: tiny bits of rough spots on the edge, the clay body is not perfectly smooth as in high-end artisanal kyusu (but that would be the next price range, so this is rather an observation than a complaint)
