Chohjuh-Giga, literally meaning "Animal Caricatures," is a set of four picture scrolls possed by Kohzan-Ji temple in Kyoto. It is formally referred to as Chohju-jinbutsu-Giga or "Animal-people Caricatures.” A national treasure produced in the 12-13 centuries. The right-to-left reading direction of Chohjuh-Giga is a traditional style in East Asia and is still common in Japan. It was also produced as the oldest work of manga.

The first scroll illustrates anthropomorphic rabbits and monkeys bathing and preparing for a ceremony, a monkey thief runs from animals with sticks and knocks over a frog from the lively celebration. Furthermore, the rabbits and monkeys are playing and wrestling while another group of animals participates in a funeral and a frog prays to the Buddha as the scroll ends.

The paintings of a rabbits and a frog on the sake bottles and cups are transferred from the scroll.

(The hues, colored patterns and shapes of the paintings on the sake bottles and cups are subtly different from the photos because they are all hand-made.)
