Hekisuien Matcha
Founded in 1867 by Kihei Horii in Jōyō City, Kyoto, Hekisuien sits at the heart of the Uji tea region, surrounded by Japan’s most celebrated tea-growing areas: Uji, Ujitawara, and Kyōtanabe.
For over 150 years, Hekisuien has devoted itself entirely to producing the finest Uji tea. Guided by the principle of “always remain humble”, the company proudly carries on its traditions under the trademark “Tengu no Uji-cha.” “Tengu Ujicha Tea” is named after Tengu, a long-nosed spirit of Japanese folklore, serving as a timeless reminder to never grow arrogant or boastful.
Hekisuien is dedicated to exploring the full potential of tea, giving meticulous care to every detail, and delivering exceptional quality in Uji matcha. They remain committed to traditional stone milling—a slow, careful process that brings out vibrant color, rich aroma, and smooth flavor. By taking time with every batch, the company preserves the taste refined over generations, crafting each cup with care.
