Competitive grade tamaryokucha blend with sweet and fruity notes from the 79th National Tea Competition
This tamaryokucha is a sophisticated blend sourced solely from competitive teas at the 79th National Tea Competition 2025. Tamaryokucha skips needle-shaping “Seijuki” machinery, allowing natural hook-like curling during processing (either steamed or pan-fired origins), a style once exported as “Guri” or “Yonkon” tea in the Taisho era and later renamed in 1932, now cherished domestically for its unique profile.
Appearance:
Made from young leaves, the dry leaf curls gracefully into rounded, hook shapes with good uniformity, deep, beautiful green with pine-fresh vibrancy.
Aroma:
Opens with sweet raisin-like fruitiness, nutty aromas and woody freshness, combined with a subtle pine-green notes.
Tasting notes:
The first brew yields an opaque, elegant liquor in soft yellowish tones. Flavor is gentle and sweet, with almond and light boiled-vegetable notes and a refined Chinese-green-tea-like lightness.
The second retains core sweetness, adding the elegance of shiny Muscat grape flavor, subtle bitterness, and fresh green nectar.
By the third, it blooms with a clean, floral, and pleasant mouthfeel.
The result is versatile and layered, light yet satisfying, with evolving sweetness and subtle complexity across infusions.
A beautiful showcase of tamaryokucha’s natural curl and depth, perfect for discovering why this style captivates with its mellow, non-astringent character.
Brewing Recommendation:
First: 6 g of tea leaf, 70°C for 45 seconds (150ml).
Second: 75°C for 20 seconds.
Third: 80°C for 15 seconds.
The tea is also available in our Japan National Tea Competition Tasting Set featuring a curated selection of our top-grade teas from the 2025 National Tea Competition of Japan.
