This gyokuro stands out, a masterful blend made of only highly scored competitive teas from the 79th National Tea Competition 2025, where elite entries compete nationally for top honors. Without exaggeration, this gyokuro is a royal luxury—its appearance, fragrance, and flavor combine to create a rare and exceptional experience.
Appearance:
At first glance, it is clearly a top-tier gyokuro. Reflecting its intense shading and specialized processing, the dry leaves are a deep, vibrant green, an indication of high chlorophyll and L-theanine levels developed through careful shading. They are expertly rolled into fine, uniform, long, and slender needle shapes.
Aroma:
Upon warming the gyokuro in a preheated teapot (after discarding the heating water), the dry leaves have an intense verdant aroma with a dark earthy-mossy depth softened by creamy, pumpkin-like sweetness.
Tasting Notes:
The gyokuro immediately impresses with rich, green, sweet umami. It is a complex tea with marine characters and notable depth—full and concentrated, yet smooth and pleasant. It lingers in the throat with a lasting, gentle presence.
The second brew is lighter, with softer umami and a bright floral accent in the background — sweet and lush, like acacia blossoms. The third brew continues to shine, with less umami and more vibrant green and marine notes.
Brewing Recommendation:
For the first infusion, use 6g of tea leaf and 60°C water for 120 seconds (about 150ml per serving).
Second brew: 65°C for 60 seconds
Third brew: 80°C for 40 seconds
The tea is also available in our Japan National Tea Competition Tasting Set featuring a curated selection of our top-grade teas from the 2025 National Tea Competition of Japan.
