Unglazed Tokoname teapot with a removable metal strainer
Side-handled teapot made from Tokoname clay with a removable metal strainer. The removable strainer makes the teapot easy to use and clean, and is especially ideal for deep-steamed green teas such as fukamushicha, which have finely cut leaves and more "tea dust".
It is a precisely made, fast-pouring teapot.
Isshin Kiln is a renowned pottery studio, recognized with numerous awards for its excellence in functional ceramics.
About Tokoname pottery:
Tokoname is a historic pottery town in Aichi Prefecture and one of Japan’s Six Ancient Kilns, with production dating back over 1,000 years. It’s best known for unglazed, high-fired stoneware made from iron-rich red clay.
A large prehistoric body of water often called Ancient Lake Tōkai covered much of the region millions of years ago. As the lake repeatedly expanded and shrank, it laid down thick layers of fine sediments mixed with iron-bearing minerals from surrounding mountains. Over time, those sediments compressed into the iron-rich clays found today around Tokoname.
That ancient lake environment is a big reason the Tōkai region became such a strong center for ceramics.

Initiation:
Before first use, rinse it with hot water, then let it dry completely!
Usage:
Avoid placing it on hot surfaces, like stove, and never use it in microwave or oven.
Cleaning:
Tea stain is the natural part of a teapot's "maturing process", but if you prefer to avoid it, rinse the teapot well after every use, do not let the tea leaves sit in it for too long. It is better to avoid dishwashing liquid, but you can use gentle, organic soap to clean your pot. Never use bleach!
Avoid using dishwasher or dryer!
To clean the built-in strainer, run water backwards from the spout, or use a toothbrush or toothpick.
Storage:
After use, always let it dry completely, for if stored away while still wet, it might develop an unpleasant smell or mold.
Non-glazed ceramic tea pots absorb scents and flavors, so only prepare one class of tea in them (green tea, black tea, roasted tea, etc).
